Illawarra Animal Hospital, with hospitals in Figtree and Yallah, is looking for an experienced Lead Veterinarian to join our team and play a key role in shaping the future of our hospital.

We provide comprehensive small animal care, with additional expertise in orthopaedic surgery and dedicated pet rehabilitation services. This is an exciting opportunity to combine your clinical skills with leadership, mentoring and team development.

What you’ll be doing

As our Lead Veterinarian, you’ll be an integral part of the hospital leadership team, helping to deliver exceptional patient care while supporting and developing our veterinary team.

Your role will include:

  • Providing high-quality clinical care across medical and surgical cases
  • Leading, mentoring and supporting our GP veterinary team
  • Acting as the line manager for GP veterinarians, providing guidance and support
  • Supporting performance reviews and ongoing professional development
  • Helping to develop the skills and confidence of our veterinary and nursing teams
  • Supporting the training of nurses and animal attendants when required
  • Working collaboratively with the hospital leadership team
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the hospital marketing plan
  • Helping to continue building Illawarra Animal Hospital’s reputation for outstanding veterinary care

About you

We’re looking for an experienced small animal veterinarian who is ready to step into a leadership position.

You’ll ideally have:

  • 5+ years’ experience in small animal general practice
  • A Bachelor or Doctor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent)
  • Current registration with the NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for mentoring and developing others
  • The confidence to provide clinical leadership and support a veterinary team
  • A commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and client service
