Raquel trained across Spain and the UK before becoming a Dipl. ECVIM-CA in 2023. A year on from her move to Australia in August 2025, she shares what the visa process, day-to-day support, and life near the water are really like.
Are You Eligible to Practice in Australia or New Zealand?
To work as a veterinarian in Australia or New Zealand, you must be registered with a State veterinary board.
There are three main pathways to registration:
- Recognised qualification - You may be eligible to apply for registration without further examination, depending on where you studied
- AU/NZ qualification - By obtaining a suitable veterinary qualification in Australia or New Zealand
- Approved examination - By successfully completing an approved exam, such as the NAVLE or AVE
